Mini-multilateralism is a diplomatic and cooperative form that has emerged in the field of international relations in recent years, involving cooperation among a few countries based on common interests and goals. The theoretical origin of mini-multilateralism can be traced back to the reflection and improvement of multilateralism and bilateralism. In recent years, with the changes in the global political and economic landscape, the mini-multilateralism cooperation model is gradually rising. Scholars and political decision-makers have begun to establish mini-multilateral cooperation mechanism to address the shortcomings of multilateralism.
For China, it is necessary to be wary of the United States using mini-multilateralism to isolate China. At the same time, we should explore more flexible and pragmatic ways of international cooperation on the basis of maintaining the existing multilateral system, and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind. The multilateralism advocated by China emphasizes extensive consultation, joint construction and shared benefits, opposes exclusivity, and promotes international cooperation through existing multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations. Meanwhile, China is also exploring open regional cooperation models, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Although these mechanisms have a relatively small initial scale, they adhere to the principle of openness and inclusiveness, and continuously attract new members. In future international cooperation, if countries can find a balance between multilateralism and mini-multilateralism, we can promote effective global governance to a greater extent.
