Sun Ruidong: Current Status and Suggestions for the Development of China's Quantum Computing Industry

2025 has been designated by UNESCO as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ), which not only commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of quantum mechanics, but also serves as a global call for quantum technology to move from theory and experimentation to practical applications and achieve industrialization. Quantum technology mainly covers quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum precision measurement. Among them, quantum computing is a new type of computing technology that uses qubit as the basic unit to perform high-speed operation, storage, and information processing based on the principles of quantum mechanics. At present, globally, the quantum computing industry is in the early stage of technology research and development, prototype product verification, and application exploration. It has not yet been able to provide practical application value, having the characteristics of small scale, large investment, and few applications. However, with the explosive growth of data volume, the world is facing a huge demand for data processing. The concept and technological path of quantum computing are becoming increasingly clear, and its superiority is becoming more and more prominent. Solving tasks that classical computing cannot accomplish will have great potential in fields such as artificial intelligence, biomedicine, and finance, and will grow into a strategic industry in the future.
