As a major province in the manufacturing and consumption of new energy vehicles in China, Jiangsu is an important global production base for power batteries, making great contributions to China’s national competition in the first half of the automotive revolution. The high-quality development of Jiangsu's new energy vehicle industry is of great value and significance to realize the national strategic goal of new energy vehicles and Chinese path to modernization.
Firstly, this article points out that the scale of the new energy vehicle industry in Jiangsu takes the leading position, with prominent competitive advantages throughout the entire industry chain. The industry development has the following trends and characteristics:
1. The development momentum of new energy vehicle industry is strong.
2. The R&D innovation of core technologies is deepening.
3. The competitiveness of the entire industry chain is continuously enhancing.
4. The consumer market for new energy vehicles is continuously expanding.
However, this article also points out that Jiangsu is not a strong manufacturing province. As the competition for new energy vehicles shifting towards networking, intelligence, and digitization based on high-tech, Jiangsu faces the following shortcomings:
1. The profitability of vehicle enterprises needs to be enhanced.
2. The electrification transformation of traditional vehicle manufacturing bases is relatively slow.
3. There is uncertainty in the consumer expectations of new energy vehicles.
4. The structure of the industrial chain is incomplete.
In order to comply with the future development trend and build a leading highland for the high-quality development of new energy vehicle in China, this article proposes the following five suggestions:
1. Accelerate the integrated development of electrification, networking, and intelligence of vehicles.
2. Make major breakthroughs in core technologies.
3. Improve the priority level of hydrogen energy and hydrogen fuel cell.
4. Promote the green development of the entire industry chain of new energy vehicles.
5. Innovate the industrial organizational forms further.
