The call to and action for Yangtze River Delta integration have been around for a long time, and the government mechanism for integration has been applied in a variety of comprehensive and professional sectors. The Guiding Opinions of State Council on Further Pushing ahead with the Reform and Opening-up and Economic and Social Development in the Yangtze River Delta Region, which was issued in 2008, raised the academic concept of “Yangtze River Delta Integration” formally to a state-level strategic decision. Regional economic integration is in an era of placing significance on both the Yangtze River Delta and the economy of China.
The aim to turn the Yangtze River Delta into “the region with the strongest comprehensive strength in China” has to be realized through integration strategy and a particular mechanism design and operation with complete respect for local government capacity and interests. So, within the context of system transition and deeper internationalization, the book crafts a thorough economic analysis on the mechanism and critical principles for attaining integrated development in a broad range of economic sectors. Based on this, the book offers pertinent academic and policy viewpoints for speeding up the leading integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. More specifically, the book offers comprehensive theoretical and empirical analysis on the economic integration mechanism of the Yangtze River Delta from a variety of perspectives, including system construction, growth competition, industrial structure convergence, merger and reorganization, global value chain, industrial relationship and industrial harmony, spatial layout, R&D cooperation, public services, urban agglomerations and cultural integration, and also offers pertinent policy advice.
The book is of significant reference value to government officials, teachers and students of colleges and universities, researchers in scientific research institutions, senior management of companies and enterprise groups and other people who are interested in understanding and analyzing economic development in the Yangtze River Delta.
