This book is not a monograph studying the mode of development of the export-oriented economy in the eastern coastal areas of China based on a case or comparative study. Rather, it provides economic-theoretical analysis and empirical research regarding the strategy and performance of export-oriented economy development in Chinese eastern coastal areas from the viewpoint of combining the industrial cluster theory and global value chain theory. Research group members have worked hard over the past two years to produce meaningful research conclusions. Their efforts include reading a substantial number of domestic and foreign materials, visiting enterprises and government agencies across the country, and using an extensive questionnaire survey and data processing. Their achievements have been published primarily in the top domestic journals, such as Economic Research, Social Sciences in China, Management World, The Journal of World Economy and China Industrial Economics, and are further modified, expanded, streamlined and optimized in the Collection of Global Typical Case Studies of Urban Complexes.
