The 12th Plenary Session of the 12th Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China earnestly implemented the spirit of the Central Urban Work Conference and proposed that we should focus on building and developing characteristic towns. This task should be regarded as an effective approach to promoting supply-side structural reform and an important carrier that improves human settlement in relevant towns and villages and pushes forward the building of new countryside. Our goal is to build approximately 100 characteristic towns of diversified development with distinctive industrial, cultural, tourism and landscape characteristics. Chu Shengjin, Director of the Research Department of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee has pointed out that “the study of the strategy of building Jiangsu Province’s characteristic towns should be conducted from the perspective of the innovation and integration of industries and characteristic towns”. Based on this, Professor Liu Zhibiao, Dean of Yangtze IDEI, held discussions with industry experts on the strategy and encouraged them to give their opinions.
