General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out in the report of the 19th CPC National Congress that, “As socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, the principal contradiction facing Chinese society has evolved. What we now face is the contradiction between unbalanced and inadequate development and the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life.” It was the first time since 1981 that our Party has made a significant change in judging and describing the principal contradiction facing Chinese society. The 19th National Congress scientifically grasped the phased characteristics of China’s development as socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era. The redefinition of the principal contradiction facing Chinese society is of vital importance and profound influence. The congress also presented new holistic and historical requirements for the future work of the Party and our country. On October 18, Liu Zhibiao, Dean of Yangtze IDEI, held discussions with relevant experts and scholars on the topic “Analysis of Evolution of the Principal Contradiction Facing Chinese Society in the Report of the 19th CPC National Congress”.
