Ning Jizhe, Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS), stated at the National Statistical Work Conference that the statistical work in 2018 would center closely around promoting high quality economic development, building a modernized economic system, improving the quality of statistical data, enhancing statistical service quality, strengthening data analysis and interpretation, and accelerating the construction of a modern statistical survey system in the new period. This week, Professor Liu Zhibiao, Dean of Yangtze IDEI, held a small-scale roundtable discussion with some experts and scholars on the topic “Views on Local Governments Taking Proactive Measures to Squeeze ‘Water’ out of GDP”. They exchanged ideas on the motivation of squeezing "water", the causes of large amount of "water" in GDP, the impact of squeezing "water", and how to prevent large amount of "water" in GDP in the future.
