How to Develop and Strengthen China’s Real Economy

General Secretary Xi Jinping has always attached great importance to the development of the real economy. He has given important instructions on the real economy work on many occasions and highlighted that the real economy should always be the foundation of China’s economic development and for China to take the initiative in international economic competition regardless of the stage of economic development. On the afternoon of January 30, 2018, the Political Bureau held the third collective study session on the construction of the modernized economic system. General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out at the session that we should vigorously develop the real economy and build a solid foundation of the modernized economic system. The real economy is the foundation of a country’s economy, the fundamental source of wealth as well as an important pillar of a country’s prosperity. In 2017, reviving the real economy was first identified as one the four key tasks of the economic work at the Central Economic Work Conference. Meanwhile, developed countries in Europe and the United States have also realized the importance of the real economy to economic and social development, and also unveiled vitalization plans in order to re-balance the industrial structure. Currently, China’s real economy growth is facing a variety of adverse conditions, including the separation of the virtual economy and the real economy, rising production costs and weakening profitability. Besides, the development of the real economy has become the most important and pressing issue for China. in such a context, Professor Liu Zhibiao, Dean of Yangtze IDEI, held in-depth discussions with relevant experts and scholars the first time on the topic “How to Develop and Strengthen China’s Real Economy”. They exchanged ideas on the existing problems in China’s real economy development, and the root causes and relevant countermeasures.
