As pointed out in the report delivered at the 19th CPC National Congress, “As socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, the principal contradiction facing Chinese society has evolved. What we now face is the contradiction between unbalanced and inadequate development and the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life”. It can be seen that the fundamental and historical change of China’s principal contradiction is the main mark of entering the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics. In such context, some people think that since China has entered a new era, economic development is no longer our central task, and the essence of socialism is no longer to liberate and develop productive forces. Professor Liu Zhibiao, Dean of Yangtze IDEI, believed that this would obscure the objectives and tasks of China’s socialist construction, and may further affect the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Therefore, he held in-depth discussions with relevant experts and scholars on the topic “Why Should We Continue to Implement the Central Task of Economic Development As China Has Entered a New Era”.
