Unlike the past, the current Sino-US trade friction involves not only the future of traditional Chinese industries, but also that of many strategic emerging industries. Based on the survey results of Section 301, President Trump is set to impose high tariffs on US$50 billion worth of Chinese goods, which mostly come from the high-tech industries to be developed under "Made in China 2025". Moreover, the US also plans to impose further restrictions on the acquisition of US high-tech industries by Chinese companies. Therefore, the current trade war is believed to have a profound impact on China’s industrial upgrading. This week, Professor Liu Zhibiao, Dean of Yangtze IDEI, held discussions with relevant experts and scholars on the topic “Impact of the Sino-US trade friction on China’s Strategic Emerging Industries”. They analyzed the impact of the Sino-US trade friction on the development of China’s strategic emerging industries, and proposed several policy suggestions on how to accelerate high-quality development of its strategic emerging industries.
