After the Chinese telecommunications equipment manufacture ZTE was suspected of selling products containing US goods and technology to Iran, a settlement agreement was reached in March 2017 and fines of $890 million were paid to the US Treasury, the US Department of Commerce and the US Department of Justice. The US Department of Commerce announced on April 16, 2018 (Washington time) that it has banned US companies from selling components to ZTE for the next seven years due to ZTE’s violations of the US government’s sanctions. The resumption of US sanctions against ZTE has a huge impact on China’s IC industry both conceptually and practically. Professor Liu Zhibiao, Dean of Yangtze IDEI, recently held discussions with relevant experts and scholars on the topic “The China-US Trade Disputes Entering a Micro Conflict Stage and China’s Response”. They thoroughly discussed the impact of US micro sanctions against China's high-tech industry on the industry development, and proposed suggestions on China’s future development of its high-tech industry.
