On April 26, 2018, General Secretary Xi Jinping chaired a symposium on facilitating the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt in Wuhan, during which he stressed that it is crucial to adopt a new vision for development, uphold the underlying principle of pursuing progress while ensuring stability, promote well-coordinated environmental conservation and avoid excessive development, strengthen reform and innovation, strategic planning and planning guidance, in order to facilitate the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt in the new context, thus promoting high-quality development of China’s economy. Is it necessary to develop the Yangtze River Economic Belt if excessive development is not allowed? If the answer is positive, how should we develop the Yangtze River Economic Belt under such premise? How do we meet the requirements for high-quality development? Professor Liu Zhibiao, Dean of Yangtze IDEI, held in-depth discussions with relevant experts and scholars on the topic “How to Understand the High Quality Development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt”. They also proposed several policy suggestions on promoting higher quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
