The chemical industry is the pillar industry of China’s national economy. Data show that China is the country with the largest sales volume of chemical products in the world. However, a great number of small and medium-sized chemical enterprises that are extremely unsafe and heavily polluting pose severe threats to the ecological environment and safe production. With the multiple pressures of intensified global industrial competition, reduced domestic production capacity and further supervision over environmental protection, the upgrading and transformation of China’s chemical industry is imminent. How do we achieve high-quality development of the chemical industry through transformation and upgrading? Professor Liu Zhibiao, Dean of Yangtze IDEI, Nanjing University, held professional and in-depth discussions with experts and scholars on this issue.
