China's expansion of import trade from countries along the Belt and Road Initiative can not only play the role of import trade to serve domestic economic development, but also serve China’s construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. However, there still exist a lot of room for improvement regarding China’s import trade from countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. At present, the main obstacles that China faces in expanding import trade from countries along the Belt and Road Initiative include: some import source countries have domestic political instability, with a misunderstanding of "China threat” theory, some import source countries have underdeveloped infrastructure, some import source countries have not signed free trade zone agreements, and some import source countries have low level of trade facilitation. Therefore, in order to expand import trade from countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, China must pay attention to preventing political risks, actively respond to the "China threat” theory, do everything possible to tap new growth points in import trade, and speed up the infrastructure construction of countries along the Belt and Road Initiative.
