Release time:2017-05-25Author: Ding Hong et al

The characteristic towns that are pioneering in Zhejiang and are popular throughout the country, with their unique mechanism of "non-town and non-district", as well as the superimposed function of "industrial and urban humanities", form a new growth carrier for the gathering of high-level factors and the flow of innovation and entrepreneurship in a highly concentrated space. As the birthplace of China's township enterprises, Wuxi has a developed economy and a relatively high degree of urban-rural integration, which has the deep soil for building a "Wuxi version" of characteristic town. The functional fit between the characteristic town and the strong industrial city of Wuxi is embodied in the following aspects: the positioning fit of focusing on characteristic industries, the motivation fit of gathering high-end factors, the mechanism fit of the “strong government and strong enterprise” model, and the system fit of the complete industrial ecology. The innovation paths for characteristic towns to boost Wuxi's strong industries include: clarifying industry orientation to shape differentiated advantages; focusing on characteristic industries to forge "economies of super scale"; integrating craftsman culture to improve industrial quality; as well as building an ecosystem to optimize the industrial environment.
