The Yangtze River Industrial Economic Think Tank Offline Seminar (2ed session) was successfully held on August 27, 2017 at the Suzhou Jinke Hotel. The theme of this offline seminar is “Future China’s New Growth Driver and New Industries”. This issue shows the keynote speech of Professor Wang Jianguo from Chukyo University, Japan.First of all, Japanese-style management has three main characteristics: the first is life-long employment and annual merit sequence, the second is enterprise group and enterprise series, and the third is the union within the enterprise. Based on the three characteristics, we can grasp Japanese management from two perspectives: corporate culture theory and contingency theory. Secondly, Japan’s labor management method of “intellectually skilled”, intermediary organizations, and Toyota-style management have their particularity and universality. Finally, whether Chinese companies can learn from Japanese companies in certain aspects depends on the answer to several questions: whether your company and industry is suitable for Toyota-style management; how is your social relationship, including the relationship with companies and the relationship with the government; what are your values and so on.
