The report of the 19th CPC National Congress put forward a two-step approach for China’s modernization, which implies a series of major innovations of modernization theory, and is also an important part of the thought of socialist economy with Chinese characteristics in the new era. What are the characteristics of modernization in the new era? Firstly, it’s a people-centered socialist modernization, which must be measured by people's living standards and achieve people’s all-round development and common prosperity. Secondly, the modernization we are going to achieve should aim to catch up with the western developed countries. We should keep pace with them, take the lead in science and technology, and give full play to the institutional advantages of socialism. Thirdly, today's modernization has shifted from the era of industrial civilization to the era of ecological civilization. We should not adopt the kind of modernization used by western countries in the era of industrial civilization.The economic modernization involves four fields. The first is the new industrialization. The second is to enter the international frontier of informatization. The third is that urbanization enters a new stage. The fourth is to fix weak links of agricultural modernization.
