The author summarizes the reform process of China's statistical work into the following seven stages.1. Clear the goal of "six modernizations" and comprehensively restore and rebuild the statistical work (1978-1983).2. Promote the reform of statistics and set up the "open-type" statistics (1984-1987).3. Take the overall situation by reform and improve the overall functions of statistical information, consultation and supervision (1988-1992).4. Establish the statistical industry and push forward the socialization, industrialization, commercialization and internationalization of statistics (1993-1995).5. Reform the statistical institutions and improve the data quality (1996-2004).6. Reform the statistical system and improve the statistical investigation system (2005-2009).7. Reform the mode of statistical production and improve its capacity, data quality and credibility (2010-2017).Looking back on 40 years, there is no doubt that reform is the main theme of China's statistical work. Under the guidance of Xi Jinping's new socialist ideology with Chinese characteristics, China's statistical work will certainly carry out the reform to the end, and take a more solid step in securing a full victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and promoting the primary realization of modernization.
