Wei Hao, Zhang Hao: An Empirical Analysis of the Impact of Trade Agreements on China's Import and Export Price Fluctuations

Release time:2018-08-15Author: Wei Hao, Zhang Hao

This article uses the data of China and 188 trading partners to empirically analyze the impact of China and its trading partners' accession to the WTO on the fluctuation of China's import and export prices. The research results show that from the perspective of China's imports, whether China's accession to the WTO or not, as long as China's trading partners have joined the WTO, the price fluctuations of China's imports from trading partners will be reduced. And compared with before China's accession to the WTO, if China's trading partners join the WTO after China's accession to the WTO, the price fluctuation of China's import from trading partners will decrease ever more. From the perspective of China's exports, China's trading partners' accession to the WTO will also significantly reduce the price fluctuations of China's exports to trading partners. In different periods, China's trading partners' accession to the WTO has more restraining effects on the price fluctuations of China's imports than exports. Therefore, China should speed up the signing of trade agreements with trading partners, stabilize China's import and export prices, and avoid the impact of excessive fluctuations in import and export prices on the domestic economy.
