The comprehensive science center is the core force representing the country to participate in the global competition in the field of science and technology. The construction of comprehensive science center is Jiangsu’s long-term consideration of realizing the economic transformation and upgrading development characterized by innovation and building an independent and controllable modern economic system. It is also a practical need to enhance the regional core competitiveness, maintain the leading edge of Jiangsu's economic and social development, achieve high-quality development in the forefront, and lead Jiangsu's development to achieve fundamental and holistic changes. Zhangjiang, Shanghai (February 2016), Hefei, Anhui (January 2017) and Huairou, Beijing (June 2017) have been successively approved as comprehensive national science centers, which are early movers in the competition of national innovation research highland.From the overall layout of national innovation, Jiangsu should urgently speed up the construction of comprehensive science center. The construction of comprehensive science center can be regarded as the source and wind vane to enlarge our characteristics and advantages of basic science. It can promote the agglomeration of high-end innovation platforms in a short time, push forward transformative innovation and technology, release influence and radiation, lead and drive the development of sci-tech innovation activities in the surrounding areas and even the whole country, and provide solid technical support for Jiangsu to build an independent and controllable modern industrial system.
