General secretary Xi Jinping summarized the experience of reform and opening-up in his speech at the 40th anniversary session of the reform and opening up, one of which is that we must maintain the worldview and methodology of dialectical and historical materialism to strike a balance between reform, development and stability. We should improve our capacity for strategic, innovative and dialectical thinking, bear in mind the rule of law and our principles, strengthen macro-thinking and top-level planning, adhere to the problem-oriented approach, and focus on the prominent contradictions and problems in China’s development. This is the scientific methodology that needs to be mastered at the present stage of deepening the reform in an all-round way.After 40 years of reform, the reform in the new era further emphasizes systematicness, integrity and coordination. Therefore, we need to grasp the inherent law of deepening reform in an all-round way, and properly handle the relationship between boldness and stability. The specific requirement is that China is a great country and must not make subversive mistakes on fundamental issues. The most fundamental thing is to adhere to the road of development of socialism with Chinese characteristics. In the practice of reform, we need to find the right way of reform according to the scientific methodology.
