On April 7, the Yangtze River Industrial Economics Research Institute of Nanjing University organized an online discussion on "How China's chemical industry can achieve transformation and upgrading of high-quality development". A total of 50 recommendations were received from university scholars, government staff, business managers, investors, etc. Through the analysis of these 50 recommendations, we found out that most recommendations required strengthening government management, and the recommendations also included classified management of chemical companies, technological innovation, as well as improvement of the professional quality of employees. In addition, quite a few voiced opinions suggested that the chemical industry zones could not use the "one-size-fits-all" approach. The recommendations mainly included: shutting down the chemical industry cannot resolve root causes of problems; strengthening government management; unifying standards and improving access threshold; grading and classifying management of chemical enterprises.
