Based on the perspective of the imports of goods trade, this paper makes an in-depth analysis of the development of China's imports in the past 70 years and the economic effect of China holding the International Import Expo in the new era to expand imports actively, and puts forward policy suggestions for China to further expand imports actively. As for the development of imports and exports: During the 70 years since the founding of new China, China has been the second largest importer in the world for 10 consecutive years. From 1950 to 1978, China supplemented the domestic supply gap through import trade, serving the goal of socialist industrialization. From 1979 to 2018, the scale of China's imports increased rapidly and gradually ranked among the world's trading powers.Holding the China International Import Expo will not only help China grasp the initiative of opening up in the next step, but also help promote domestic economic development, help domestic enterprises develop, and improve the level of domestic consumer welfare.Policy suggestions for China to further expand its imports are as follows: we should try our best to run the China International Import Expo. We should vigorously develop the retail imports of cross-border e-commerce. We should try every possible means to actively expand the import of high-tech products. We should also strengthen the prevention of import risks.
