It is a distinctive feature of Marxism to insist on problem orientation. To innovate the political economy of socialism with Chinese characteristics with problem orientation means not only starting from reality, but also returning to reality and solving practical problems. To persist in problem orientation in the study of political economy of socialism with Chinese characteristics, we need to clearly overcome two tendencies: to get rid of the tendency of empiricism; to overcome the tendency to simply apply western models.Problem orientation is closely related to theoretical innovation. Problems are the starting point and driving force of innovation. For the political economy of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the guiding role is the issue of the times. We should focus on the following issues: liberating, developing and protecting the productive forces, the principal contradiction of our society in the new era and high-quality economic development.To adhere to problem orientation and innovate the theoretical system of political economy of socialism with Chinese characteristics, we must explain the reality and make theoretical analysis of the practical problems. First, we should study the existing relations of production. Second, we should pay attention to the form of implementation of the system. Third, we should expand the level of research.
