Release time:2020-10-14Author: [Exclusive interview] Liu Zhibiao

In the face of the changes of international and domestic situation, our government has proposed to foster a new development paradigm with domestic circulation as the mainstay and domestic and international circulations reinforcing each other. The metropolitan circle and urban agglomeration led by the central city is undoubtedly the most important space carrier to construct this new pattern. In the layout of China's urban agglomeration, the Yangtze River Delta is of great significance. It is one of the areas with the most active economic development, the highest degree of openness and the strongest innovation ability in China. It is difficult to promote regional integration, but it is imperative. How has the integration of the Yangtze River Delta progressed since it became a national strategy three years ago? What experiences or lessons have China had in the past in the development of regional integration? How should mechanisms of integration be set up? How should metropolitan areas and urban agglomeration play their role in meeting new challenges at home and abroad? What will drive China's future high-quality growth? As to these questions, Caixin Think Tank interviewed Liu Zhibiao, Dean of Yangtze IDEI of Nanjing University. As for the development of the integration of the Yangtze River Delta, Professor Liu Zhibiao put forward some suggestions. He believes that we can consider using government guiding funds to drive social capital, setting up a reasonable interest distribution and incentive mechanism, and investing in a marketized way. China should take opening up to the internal market as a breakthrough to break through the bottleneck in the integration of the "dual circulation" market.
