Abstract: China's development has made great contributions to reducing world inequality, but China's domestic inequality has expanded significantly. 1998-2006 was a period of rapid expansion of income inequality, and 2003-2011 experienced a period of rapid expansion of wealth inequality. Today, income inequality is still at a high level, but the degree of inequality has eased, which is expected to get out of the "inverted U-shaped" curve pursued by western developed countries. Wealth inequality has temporarily stabilized, but the level of inequality is significantly higher than income inequality. It should be noted that the proportion of income and wealth of China's middle class is declining, which is not conducive to the formation of an "olive-shape" distribution pattern. The dual structure between urban and rural areas has eased, and the regional gap continues to expand. Progress has been made in balanced regional development, and the gap within the region continues to widen. New technology development and industry monopoly also lead to the rise of industry income gap. It is suggested to correctly view the causes and pattern evolution of the gap between the rich and the poor in China, continue to focus on the production side, and strive to promote economic growth while reducing inequality.
