China attaches great importance to the development of western border cities and has held many symposiums on the governance of Xinjiang and Tibet. The long-term stability, prosperity and development of Xinjiang and Tibet are an important part of China's long-term stability, prosperity and development. An important measure to develop Tibet and Xinjiang is to promote the urbanization of Xinjiang and Tibet, improve the scale of western cities and build a western border urban belt.
Firstly, this paper analyzes the importance of the western border urban belt. Then it analyzes the current situation and problems of urbanization in the western region, including low level, small scale, backward infrastructure and so on. Finally, this paper puts forward some suggestions to promote the development of the western border urban belt, including the following five points:
1. Redefine the scope of the western region and reduce the number of western provinces
2. Strive to improve infrastructure and build a transportation network along the western border
3. Vigorously promote population growth and increase the size of cities
4. Steadily increase the intensity of counterpart support and improve the way of counterpart support
5. Develop tourism and market the western urban belt
