Since 2022, China's coal industry policies have been adjusted frequently. Overall, the adjustment range and intensity of the whole coal industry are very large, and the central government has quickly adopted a host of policies.
This paper reviews the background of this policy adjustment, analyzes the reasons why coal prices hit a record high last year from both supply and demand sides, and describes its impact on the production of residents and enterprises, emphasizing the importance of coal in China's energy security.
Through the analysis of this event and the practice of other countries, this paper believes that it is necessary to adjust the decarbonization path in time according to the internal and external environment. Our government's more cautious carbon peaking and carbon neutrality plan is not an adjustment to this goal. A prudent and robust approach to decarbonization is more in line with the need for sustainable decarbonization. A rational and pragmatic carbon reduction plan that takes retreat as progress and dynamically adjusts is more sustainable and more stable and far-reaching than campaign-style carbon reduction.
