Release time:2022-05-24Author: Shi Xunpeng

On May 21, Australia held a federal election. At present, the counting of votes is still continuing, and the labor party is expected to obtain an absolute majority. The Liberal–National Coalitio has admitted defeat in the election, and the current Prime Minister Morrison resigned as prime minister and leader of the Liberal Party. On May 23, the leader of the labor party was sworn in as the 31st Prime Minister of Australia.

Although Australia faces many problems in this national election, the energy transformation policy has once again become one of the focuses of debate and the key to success or failure. This paper reviews the events in the last federal election, in which energy and climate policies determined the success or failure of the election, and analyzes the reasons why the energy transition goal that the Labour Party insisted on received different reactions from the public three years later. Finally, this paper predicts that the energy transformation policy will be the new focus of Australian politics for a long time in the future.
